Sophomore Sam Henrie (Middleboro, Mass.) hammered a first-pitch fastball to the opposite field, delivering a two-out, walk-off RBI single to left in the bottom of the ninth, as 17th-ranked and second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University topped seventh-seeded Assumption College, 4-3, Thursday in an NCAA Baseball East II Regional first round matchup at Penmen Field.

The Penmen will now take on the winner of third-seeded Long Island University-LIU Post and sixth-seeded Felician University on Friday (May 17) at noon. The Greyhounds meet the loser of the Pioneers and Golden Falcons in an elimination contest at 3:30 on Friday.

After Assumption climbed out of a 2-0 hole to tie it in the top of the eighth, redshirt-senior Kevin Alexy (Newton, Mass.) crushed a go-ahead solo home run over the bullpen in right to put SNHU back in front, 3-2, in the eighth.

The Greyhounds tied it in the top of the ninth against sophomore Jeffrey Praml (Bridgewater, N.J.), who came on to record the final out of the eighth. Junior R.J. Libby (Middleton, Mass.) led off with a single to center, went to second on a sac bunt from classmate Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass.), advanced to third on a groundout from senior Trevor McQuade (Westwood, Mass.) and scored on a wild pitch.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth, redshirt-sophomore Marcus Chavez (Queens, N.Y.) doubled toward the right-field line and went to third on an errant throw from the right fielder. Henrie then jumped on the first pitch he saw, driving it into left to send the Penmen to victory.

Henrie finished 1-for-5 with the RBI. Freshman Alex Kennedy (Braintree, Mass.) went 3-for-4 and scored a run for his second career three-hit game. Junior Jake Coro (Johnston, R.I.) also turned in a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alexy was 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored.

Graduate student Jake Walkinshaw (Seymour, Conn.) worked the first six innings for the Penmen, allowing one run – unearned – on six hits, while striking out five and walking a pair. Praml, who had a 22-and-a-third-inning scoreless streak snapped, earned the win to improve to 5-0, relinquishing a run on one hit, while striking out one in an inning-and-a-third. Junior Wesley Tobin (Portsmouth, N.H.) allowed one run on three hits in an inning-and-two-thirds of relief, striking out a pair and walking one.

Senior Alex Richardson (Rehobeth, Mass.) led the Greyhounds, offensively, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Libby finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored, while sophomore Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass.) was 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Sophomore Cole Chudoba (Oxford, Conn.) started for Assumption, giving up two runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking three, over seven innings. Freshman Pat Harrington (Bedford, N.H.) took the loss to fall to 1-2, giving up a run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
