Baseball Falls to Assumption 7-2

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Visiting Assumption College banged out 17 hits en route to a 7-2 Northeast-10 baseball victory over Southern New Hampshire University Monday afternoon.  The Greyhounds improved to 17-11-1 overall and 10-4-1 in the NE-10 with the win, while the Penmen are now 11-17-1 and 8-9-1 in the league.

Assumption jumped on the board with two runs in the second and two more in the third.  In the second, the Greyhounds got back-to-back singles by Shawn Frigon and Mike Baillargeon that plated Josh Dufresne and Steve Scannell.  In the third, Mike Foley led off with an infield single and scored on a double to the gap by Mike DiReda.  DiReda would later score on a single by Scannell.

The Penmen would get a run back in the bottom of the fifth.  Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, MA) led off with a single through the right side and after advancing to second on a groundout, stole third.  O'Neil would come home on a single off the bat of Koby Thibault (Salisbury, MA).

The Greyhounds made it a 5-1 game in the seventh when Baillargeon led off with a single and eventually scored on a single by Tim Scafidi.  Assumption would threaten again in the eighth, loading the bases with one out, but Adam Flynn (Derby Line, VT) would strike out Baillargeon, and Justin Mansfield (Arlington, MA) would get Derek Migrants to fly out to center field.

SNHU would add a run in the bottom of the eighth when a single by Tim Rines (Merrimack, NH) scored Eric Pelletier (Beverly, MA).  Assumption scored twice in the top of the ninth on back-to-back RBI singles by Dufresne and Scannell.

Scannell led Assumption with four hits while Frigon totaled three hits for the Greyhounds.  Pelletier had two of SNHU's eight hits on the afternoon.  Michael Colebrook allowed four hits and a run over five innings of work to pick up the win on the hill for Assumption.  SNHU starter Ryan Quinn (Lebanon, CT) was touched for 11 hits and four runs in three-plus innings of work and took the loss while recording a pair of strikeouts.

Southern New Hampshire returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 7:00 game.
