THE PENMEN: Southern New Hampshire opened the season on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Nyack by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22...senior captain Danielle Coffey posted a team-high 11 kills and a match-high eight blocks for the Penmen...freshman setter Kendra Mikuta posted a match-best 27 assists in her first appearance for the Penmen...Peyton Williams added 17 digs for the Penmen...Ashlee Doust added 10 digs...Megan Lesczynski added eight kills and eight digs...Erica Solomon added five kills and nine digs...Solomon will serve as team captain alongside Coffey this season...SNHU posted a 10-14 record last season and a 6-9 record in Northeast-10 Conference play...the Penmen return four of the top-five leaders in kills from the 2010 squad.
THE GREYHOUNDS: Assumption started the season with a 2-2 record at the Johnson C. Smith University tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina...the Greyhounds enter the 2011 season coming off a 9-24 overall record and a 0-15 record in NE-10 play...Lauren Ostafin returns to the roster after leading the Greyhounds in kills with 263 last season, an average of 2.33 kills per game...Kristen Flatekval and Jess Reimers both return after splitting time in the setter slot, tallying 452 and 421 assists, respectively...Steph Whooten also returns to the Assumption roster after leading the team in digs with 420 last season.
HEAD TO HEAD: The Penmen won both matchups with the Greyhounds last season, posting a 3-1 win in non-conference play and a 3-1 win in conference play.
