Women’s Tennis Loses to NE10 Unbeaten Stonehill, 5-2

Senior Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) won both of her matches, but the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team saw its fall season come to a close with a 5-2 loss to NE10 Regular Season Champion Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Tennis Courts at Penmen Stadium.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Sala took down Isabelle Porter, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-5 at No. 1 singles and teamed with classmate Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal) for a 6-1 defeat of Alexandra Vo and Annelise Howick at No. 1 doubles.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After Stonehill answered the Sala and Morais win with a No. 3 doubles victory, freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and senior Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) earned the doubles point for the Penmen with a 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Porter and Samantha Ormesher at No. 2.
  • Stonehill responded by winning singles matches at Nos. 2, 6, 3 and 5 to clinch the match, before adding a victory at No. 4.
  • Sala capped the match with her win at No. 1.

NOTES

  • The Penmen, who had won two straight after getting their lineup fully healthy for the first time all season, miss the Northeast-10 Championship for the first time since 2004.
