MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was chosen as the Northeast-10 Rookie of the Week for the period ending Sept. 23, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Etienne went 5-1, including 3-0 at No. 3 singles, in a 2-1 week for the Penmen. Etienne toppled Bentley University's Katie Tynan, 6-0, 6-2, in a 6-1 Thursday, beat the University of New Haven's Lilia Rodriguez, 6-4, 6-2 in Saturday's 4-3 loss and blanked Sophie Roberge, 6-0, 6-0, in Sunday's 6-1 triumph over American International College. Etienne also teamed with senior Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Mass.) for a 6-0 No. 2 doubles win against Bentley's Evann Welty and Courtney Flynn, as well as another 6-0 victory versus AIC's Taylor Pankewicz and Cecilia Salazar.
Through six matches this season, Etienne is 5-1 in singles play, including 4-0 in NE10 action, as well as 4-2 in doubles.
Etienne and the Penmen are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 26 (4 p.m.) when they take on crosstown-rival Saint Anselm College. The next home match for SNHU is Tuesday, Oct. 2 (3 p.m.) when it plays host to Stonehill College.
