SOUTH EASTON, Mass. – Junior Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) of the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team was named the Northeast-10 Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, while teammate Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y.) was named the league's Co-Rookie of the Week.
Mukdaprakorn reached the semifinals of the Wilson/ITA East Regional this past weekend in both the A singles and A doubles draws. In the singles draw, she went 3-1, eventually bowing out to singles champion Sara Burinato of NYIT in the semis. In doubles play, she teamed up with Amanda Albuquerque (Weymouth, Mass.) to reach the semifinals as well. In dual match play, Mukdaprakorn posted a 2-0 singles mark and a 1-1 doubles mark in wins over Le Moyne and Holy Family.
Vamvakitis, playing at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, finished 2-0 in dual match play as the Penmen opened their season with wins over Le Moyne and Holy Family. She also teamed up with fellow freshman and Westhampton Beach HS teammate Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y.) to advance to the quarterfinals of the B doubles draw at the Wilson/ITA Regional.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action on Wednesday, September 28 when it travels to Assumption College for a 4:00 Northeast-10 contest.
