BOX SCORE

When and Where: September 19, 2016 – Bridgeport, Conn. (Knights Field)
Score:
Southern New Hampshire University 2, University of Bridgeport 1 (OT)
Records: SNHU 5-2-0, Bridgeport 3-2-0

Senior Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season late in the 92nd minute and classmate Autumn Scanlon (Waltham, Mass.) matched her career high with 10 saves to give the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team a 2-1 overtime victory against the University Bridgeport on Monday evening at Knights Field.

With the game knotted at 1-all just under two minutes into the extra session, Poulin finished a cross from junior Abigail Maker (Naples, Maine) at the back post to give SNHU its second OT winner in four matches. Poulin had missed four matches this season due to injury, including two straight.

The game seemed to be destined for a scoreless tie after regulation, but Hanne Neby's through-ball to the middle of the box set up Idoia Agirre, whose low shot beat Scanlon to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 lead.

Rather than let frustration get the better of them, the Penmen responded just 34 seconds later when Maker sent a long shot that beat Bridgeport goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius, who had come out of the net.

Notes:
- The win is SNHU's first against a nationally-ranked opponent since Sept. 12, 2012 when it tipped the 23rd-ranked University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 2-1, in overtime.
- The Penmen snap Bridgeport's 27-match home winning streak and hand the Purple Knights their first home loss since Nov. 4, 2012. Bridgeport was 52-1-2 in its previous 55 home matches entering the day.
- Scanlon also stopped 10 shots on Oct. 6, 2015 in a 1-0 loss at Merrimack College.
- Bridgeport owned a whopping 25-12 advantage in shots, including 12-4 in the opening stanza, while Southern New Hampshire held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
