Samantha Whittier Named to NCAA Division II SAAC
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.), a sophomore member of the Southern New Hampshire University women's soccer team, was recently named to the NCAA Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing the Northeast-10 Conference.
"Representing the Northeast-10 on the national SAAC is not just an honor, but a true opportunity to carry my passion for the game and Division II athletics off the field," said Whittier. "I am very excited about my involvement with the national SAAC because in less than two years at SNHU, I've seen just what unlimited potential Penmen student-athletes have both on and off the field, so I am looking forward to engaging the potential of 100,000 Division II student-athletes."
Whittier, a graduate of St. Peter-Marian HS, currently serves on the executive board of Southern New Hampshire's SAAC as its Promotions Representative. A goalkeeper for the women's soccer team, Whittier made 10 appearances and nine starts in goal this season, posting a 6-3-1 record, 1.10 goals-against average and .722 save percentage with three shutouts.
The NCAA Division II SAAC consists of one member from each of the 23 Division II conferences, as well as one representative of independent institutions and two at-large representatives. Committee members serve as student-athlete liaisons between the happenings at the campus, conference and national levels.
Each representative is responsible for gathering feedback and reporting on behalf of their conference as well as relaying important events, hot topics and educationsl information to both the campus and conference levels. In addition to relaying information across campuses and conferences, DII SAAC speaks on behalf of the entire Division II student-athlete body throughout the NCAA governance structure.
Whittier will serve a three-year term that expires in January, 2015.
