MANCHESTER, N.H.—A goal by New Haven's Shannon Morales in the second minute of the game was all it took to lead the University of New Haven to a 1-0 Northeast-10 Conference win over the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday morning. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 9-7-2 overall and 7-6-2 in NE-10 play, while the win boosts the visiting Chargers to 9-8 overall and 7-8 in league play.
Morales collected the ball off of a corner kick taken by Lucy Francisco at the 1:08 mark to tally the game-winning goal. The Penmen would respond with six shots on goal throughout the remainder of the game, but none would beat New Haven keeper Kim Taylor.
The Penmen posted a total shot advantage of 16-2 throughout the game, holding the Chargers to just one shot per half.
Penmen goaltender Samantha Whittier (Sutton, Mass.) did not record a save in the loss. Taylor recorded six saves in net f or the Chargers.
Southern New Hampshire will look for a playoff spot in the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference tournament. Seeding will be announced following the conclusion of all of today's Northeast-10 games.
