Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at Pfeiffer

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – Pfeiffer University topped Southern New Hampshire University 19-3 in non-conference women's lacrosse action at N.E. Lefko Field Sunday afternoon.  The Falcons improved to 5-0 with the win, while the game marked the season opener for the Penmen.

Ashleigh Kassab led Pfeiffer with five goals and an assist, while Carly Garrison recorded four goals and an assist for the Falcons.

Kayleigh Dube (Bourne, Mass.) led Southern New Hampshire with a pair of goals, while Ellie Morin (Scarborough, Maine) had the other Penmen tally.

Pfeiffer scored the game's first seven goals before Dube scored with 8:42 left in the first half to make it a 7-1 game.  Shannon Bonnel scored to make it 8-1 before goals by Morin at 5:37 and Dube at 3:31 pulled the Penmen within 8-3 at halftime.  The Falcons blanked the guests in the second half as they scored 11 unanswered goals.

Cassidy Wilson had six saves in goal en route to the win for Pfeiffer, while Maria Ploof (Middlebury, Vt.) made nine saves for Southern New Hampshire.  The Falcons held a 37-13 shot advantage on the afternoon.

Southern New Hampshire opens its home slate Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Grand Valley State University in a 1:00 game at Larkin Field.
