Women's Basketball Holds Hawks to 33 Points in 53-33 Win
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Ashara Carrington (Marblehead,
Mass.) totaled 19 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead
Southern New Hampshire University to a 53-33 win over Saint Anselm
College in Northeast-10 women's basketball Wednesday night at the
SNHU Fieldhouse. The Penmen improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in
the Northeast-10, while the Hawks are now 1-1 and 0-1 in the

The 33 points Southern New Hampshire allowed defensively is a school record, eclipsing the record of 35 points set November 15 of last season in a win over Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Penmen allowed the Hawks to shoot just 20.5% (9-44) for the game while forcing 18 Saint Anselm turnovers.
Carrington was 8-11 from the floor in 19 minutes of action. Libby Cullerot (Henniker, N.H.) canned a pair of three-pointers and totaled eight points, while Morgan Munson (Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia) added six points. Christine Duffy (South Boston, Mass.) handed out seven assists for the Penmen and registered five points.
Megan Howard led Saint Anselm with nine points and six rebounds, while Epiphany Smith added eight points.
The Penmen never trailed in the contest, opening up a 7-1 lead four minutes into the game following a conventional three-point play by Carrington. SNHU built a 16-8 lead before the Hawks used a 7-2 spurt to cut the lead to three, 18-15, with 7:41 left on a three by Jennifer Gureckis. Southern New Hampshire then held Saint Anselm scoreless for the rest of the half, scoring 11 unanswered points to take a 29-15 lead at the break.
Southern New Hampshire put the game away by opening the second half on a 10-2 run capped by a Carrington layup with 14:27 remaining that made it 39-17. The Penmen maintained at least a 20-point advantage the rest of the way and took their largest lead, 50-23, with 7:51 left on a basket by Sloane Sorrell (Berwick, Maine).
Southern New Hampshire is idle until next Tuesday when it travels to UMass Lowell for a 5:30 contest.
