Softball Earns No. 3 Seed in NCAA East Regional, Will Battle Pace Thursday at Saint Anselm

INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University softball team earned the No. 3 seed and will travel across town to Saint Anselm College for opening weekend action in the 2018 NCAA East 2 Regional, as the NCAA announced the 2018 National Tournament field. The Penmen (37-12) open up regional play against sixth-seeded Pace University (27-20) Thursday at 2:30 p.m.

The NCAA Division II Softball East Regional is comprised of two four-team sites and is a double elimination format.

In Thursday's first game, the host Hawks (36-10-1), seeded second in the region, will take on the No. 7 seed, Merrimack College (31-14) at noon. The winners of the two contests on Thursday will advance to play at 11 a.m. on Friday with the victor moving onto Saturday's regional championship game at 12:30. The losing teams from Thursday will play at 1:30 p.m. on Friday and the winner of that game will square off with the losing team from the 11 a.m. contest.

The two remaining teams from Fridays competition will play on Sunday to determine who will advance to the NCAA East Super Regional on May 17 and 18 against the winner of the East 1 Regional.

Adelphi University (30-19-1) garnered the No. 1 seed in the NCAA East Regional and earned the right to host the East 1 Regional. The Panthers will face No. 8 Caldwell University (34-16) Thursday at noon, and their game will be followed by the matchup between fourth-seeded LIU Post (35-17) and the five seed, Le Moyne College (32-13).

Southern New Hampshire, which has already set a new single-season program record for wins, is making its fifth overall appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament and fourth in the past five seasons. The Penmen have captured each of the past two NCAA East Regionals they have been in, and have made a pair Super Regional berths.
