Maloof Earns NFCA East Region First Team Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Freshman Ali Maloof (Norwood, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) 2012 Division-II East Region First-Team as a designated player, as announced by the NFCA on Thursday afternoon.  The NFCA regional teams are selected by in-region member coaches.

Maloof earns the honor after a stellar freshman season performance in the circle and at the plate.  The freshman led the Penmen at the plate with a .368 batting average and a team-high 60 hits including eight doubles, three triples, and three homeruns.  She also totaled 17 multi-hit games on the season and posted a season-high four hits against Wilmington (Del.) in March.  Maloof also wrapped up the season with a 13-10 record in the circle and finished her rookie season with 149 strikeouts, ranking her in the top third of all Division-II pitchers.

Maloof also earned Northeast-10 All-Conference Third Team honors in the postseason and was named to the league's All-Rookie team.
