Softball Swept by Dowling

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. – Host Dowling College swept a softball doubleheader from Southern New Hampshire University by scores of 2-0 and 3-0 Sunday afternoon. The Golden Lions improved to 5-9 with the wins, while the Penmen are now 1-3 on the season.
In the opener, the Golden Lions scored the game’s lone runs in the bottom of the sixth. Cristy Jenkins (Hudson, Mass.) and Andrea Clausi (Kingston, N.Y.) had the two SNHU hits for the game. Kelsey Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) pitched six innings for the Penmen, allowing five hits while striking out three.
In game two, Dowling scored twice in the fourth then added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Kelsea Cheney (Abington, Mass.), Melissa Pessotti (Burlington, Mass.) and Amanda Barton (Franklin, N.H.) had the three Penmen hits. Jen Garloff (Lebanon, Pa.) went four innings and allowed three hits and two runs while striking out three. Barton worked the final two innings and allowed a pair of hits while fanning two.
Southern New Hampshire travels to Mercy for a 3:00 doubleheader Monday.
