MANSFIELD, Mass. – Senior Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.) and freshman Cedric Jocelyn (Nyack, N.Y.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country team were named the Northeast-10 Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, as the league announced its weekly award winners.
McLaren helped the Penmen to a second-place finish at the Vermont Tech Invitational on Saturday after he topped a field of 37 student-athletes with a time of 26:41. He outpaced his next closest competitor by 33 seconds to earn the first individual crown of his career, and also posted the 18th-fastest eight-kilometer time in program history. McLaren now owns nine of the top-20 8K times in the history of Southern New Hampshire University men's cross country.
In just his second race in a Penmen singlet, Jocelyn cruised to a top-10 finish in 27:35. He slotted in seventh overall and was the top freshman in the pack, as he missed out on the top-five by just four seconds.
Southern New Hampshire resumes its schedule Saturday (Sept. 16) when it takes part in the Bruce Kirsch Cup at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.
