PHILADELPHIA – The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team competed at the Wilson/ITA East Regional Championships hosted by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference this past weekend.
In the A singles draw, Mitch Dobek (Westfield, Mass.) reached the round of 16. After earning a first-round bye, he defeated Jesse Smith of Queens (N.Y.) College 6-3, 6-4 before falling to Concordia (N.Y.) College's David Tisserand 6-4, 7-5. Tisserand was the No. 5 seed in the bracket.
Juan Arango-Campo (Armenia Quindio, Colombia) and Alex Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn.) also competed in the A singles bracket. Arango-Campo was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Philadelphia University's Adrian Torroella-Cruz in the first round before falling 4-6, 6-0 (8) to top-seeded Attila Toth of Queens in the second round. After receiving a first-round bye, Mukdaprakorn fell 6-1, 6-2 to Miguel Uzcategui of the University of the District of Columbia in the second round.
In A doubles play, Arango-Campo and Mukdaprakorn were 9-8 winners over Tisserand and Andreas Lindell of Concordia in the first round before falling to Toth and Nikolaj Wulff of Queens 8-3.
In B doubles play, Dobek and Jared Wright (Norwell, Mass.) reached the quarterfinals. The duo defeated Adrian Avena and Julius Twyman of Chestnut Hill 8-6 in the first round, then topped Taylor Dedeke and Josh Greenberg of Philadelphia 8-2. In the quarterfinals they were stopped by Petar Golijanin and Chris Toegemann of Merrimack College 8-1.
The Southern New Hampshire University men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Le Moyne College for an 11:00 am match.
