MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jordan Branco (Norton, Mass.) totaled two goals and an assist to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 4-0 win over Post University in non-conference men's soccer action at Larkin Field Wednesday night. The Penmen, who are ranked No. 5 in the East Region, won their fifth in a row to improve to 8-2, while the Eagles, who are ranked sixth in the region, dropped their second straight game and are now 5-2-4.
After a scoreless first half, Branco got the Penmen on the board just over 10 minutes into the second half. He dribbled towards the left post past a Post defender and fired a shot that deflected off another Eagle and into the goal. Southern New Hampshire made it 2-0 just over eight minutes later as they were awarded a penalty kick after Post keeper Errol Reid took out Chris Tsonis (Dartmouth, Mass.) at the top of the box. Tsonis buried the penalty shot for his eighth goal of the season.
In the 68th minute, Branco scored again after he took a pass across the box from Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.) and one-timed it. Jayme Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.) also assisted on the tally. The hosts closed out the scoring in the 78th minute when Brian Mas (Key Biscayne, Fla.) scored his first collegiate goal off a feed from Branco.
Joey Kapinos (Ludlow, Mass.) went the first 73:54 in goal for the Penmen and made five saves before giving way to Dom DiMaggio (Rome, N.Y.), who made a pair of stops to preserve the shutout, the third straight for Southern New Hampshire. Reid made five saves as the Penmen outshot the Eagles 21-12.
Southern New Hampshire returns to Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday when it travels to Assumption College for a 1:00 contest.
