COMPLETE NSCAA ALL-AMERICA TEAM COMPLETE NSCAA ALL-REGION TEAM
MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team recently had three players named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru Division II All-America Team. Senior Richard Kentish (Kingston, Jamaica) was a First Team selection, while Marc Goulet (Plainville, Conn.) was selected to the Second Team. Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) was named to the Third Team. With three players selected, SNHU was tied for second behind only Cal State Los Angeles' four All-America selections.
In addition, goalkeeper Sean Lambert (Rehoboth, Mass.) was a NSCAA First Team All-Region selection, while freshman Ruben Resendes (Fall River, Mass.) was named a Third Team All-Region choice.
Kentish, a back, also garnered Daktronics First Team All-America honors in 2009. In addition, Kentish was the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 and is a three-time Northeast-10 All-Conference selection. One of four players to start all 22 games for the Penmen, Kentish anchored a defense that recorded 11 shutouts and posted a 0.56 goals-against average, good for seventh nationally. The Penmen recorded seven straight shutouts from September 5-September 27, the second longest string in program history, and allowed more than one goal just twice in 22 games.
Goulet, a senior in his lone season with the Penmen after spending the first three years of his career at the University of Maine, played in 20 of 22 games this season and was in the starting lineup 18 times in the midfield. A Northeast-10 First Team All-Conference selection, Goulet totaled two goals and two assists on the season. He had game-winning goals in road wins over UMass Lowell and Assumption, and also notched a pair of assists in a win at New Haven.
Schippers, who garnered NE-10 First
Team honors for the second straight season in 2009, led the Penmen
in scoring with 12 goals and three assists despite playing in just
18 of 22 contests. He was also a Daktronics Honorable Mention
All-American.
A two-time Northeast-10 Player of the Week, Schippers registered
seven game-winning goals on the season. He totaled two goals
and an assist in wins over Saint Thomas Aquinas and Bentley and
also scored twice in a victory over New Haven. Schippers also
tallied at least one goal in six of his final seven regular season
contests.
Lambert started 18 of 22 games for
Southern New Hampshire this season and posted a 0.62 goals against
average and .814 save percentage while registering seven
shutouts. He led the Northeast-10 and ranked ninth nationally
in GAA. His 20 career shutouts place him fourth in program
history. Lambert garnered Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year
honors for the second straight year in 2009.
Resendes, the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year in 2009, played in all 22 games for the Penmen and was in the starting lineup 18 times. He had assists in regular season victories over NCAA Tournament teams Franklin Pierce and Le Moyne and also tallied a goal in a win over American International.
The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team finished 14-4-4 overall and advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals for the first time since the 2002 season. The Penmen captured their second straight Northeast-10 regular season title.
