Men's Soccer Earns Top Seed in NCAA East Region, Hosts Friday and Sunday

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team has earned the top seed in the East Regional of the 2008 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship, it was announced on Monday night. The Penmen will play host to first and second round competition on Friday and Sunday, as on Friday fourth-seeded UMass Lowell will take on fifth-seeded Molloy College in a first round game at SNHU's Larkin Field. The winner of that game will face SNHU on Sunday in a second round contest, also at Larkin Field.
Game times are set for 3:00 pm on Friday afternoon and 1:00 Sunday. Ticket prices each day are $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and senior citizens and $3.00 for children under 12.
SNHU earned its 14th trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 15-2-4 overall record. The Penmen earned a share of the Northeast-10 regular season title, then captured the third NE-10 tournament title in program history with a 1-0 win over Le Moyne College on Saturday. Southern New Hampshire is currently ranked No. 13 in the latest adidas/NSCAA Division II poll.
Southern New Hampshire has enjoyed a great deal of success in the NCAA Tournament, capturing the 1989 Division II national championship and reaching the championship game in 2002. The Penmen have made seven trips to the national quarterfinals and last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2006.
UMass Lowell captured a share of the Northeast-10 regular season title and was the NE-10 tourney's top seed before being bounced by Le Moyne in the semifinals. The River Hawks, who dealt SNHU their only conference loss of the season, are ranked No. 21 nationally and enter the tournament with an overall record of 11-3-4. UML is making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance, with all four coming since 2003.
Molloy is making its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament after posting a 12-5-2 record and capturing the East Coast Conference tournament title following a 1-0 win over No. 8 Dowling College on Saturday. The Lions enter the tournament on a five-game winning streak and unbeaten in their last seven contests.
Dowling will be the other host site for East Region first and second round competition. Third-seeded Le Moyne and No. 6 seed Franklin Pierce University will meet in the first round, with the winner facing the host Golden Lions in the second round. The winners of the two second round contests will meet next weekend in the Division II quarterfinals, which will be held at the highest remaining seed.
