MANSFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Alex Sturgess (Derry, N.H.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was named both the Northeast-10 Conference Goalkeeper of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, as the Conference announced its weekly honors recipients.
Sturgess racked up a career-high 18 saves Saturday, as Southern New Hampshire earned a 14-9 victory in its Northeast-10 opener at the College of Saint Rose. He kept the Penmen in the game with eight first quarter saves, and after SNHU built a lead through the second and third, Sturgess slammed the door with seven stops in the final frame. The freshman stopped 66.7 percent of the shots he faced and held the Golden Knights to their lowest goal total of the season.
The Penmen, who currently sit 2-2 overall and 1-0 within the confines of the NE10, resume play on Saturday (March 16) when they host Pace University at noon.
