MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team was chosen to finish seventh in the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was announced by the league office on Tuesday. The Penmen totaled 57 points.
Reigning Division II National Champion Merrimack College was a unanimous selection to repeat, as the Warriors garnered 11 first-place votes to compile 121 points. Le Moyne College slotted in second with 109 points, while Adelphi University was third after accumulating 99 points and Merrimack's first-place marker. Saint Anselm College checked in just behind the Panthers with 94 points, and the Hawks were followed by Pace University (79) and Bentley University (63).
Assumption College followed Southern New Hampshire in eighth with 56 points before the College of Saint Rose (51) and Franklin Pierce University (32) rounded out the top-10. Saint Michael's College (20) and American International College (11) completed the poll.
The Penmen return eight letterwinners who saw action in at least 10 games a season ago, four of which started a dozen contests or more. Southern New Hampshire welcomes back senior captain Tom Schutz (Trumbull, Conn.) for his final season after he finished second on the team in both goals (23) and points (33) in 2018. Sophomore Cole Jacobsen (Dartmouth, Mass.) returns after he was an NE10 All-Rookie selection a year ago with a 15-goal campaign, while classmate and fellow NE10 All-Rookie performer Nolan Isabella (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) joins juniors Tyler Mello (Acushnet, Mass.) and Anthony Milano (Billerica, Mass.) to form an experienced defensive unit.
Southern New Hampshire opens its 2019 season Saturday (February 16) when it welcomes Georgian Court University to Penmen Stadium for a noon face off.
