NEWTON, Mass. – Seniors Daniel Trainor (Billerica, Mass.) and Zach Jacobs (Tewksbury, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team have been selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) East-West Senior All-Star Game. The game will be held on Friday, June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Stagg Field on the campus of Springfield College.
"The NEILA recognizes these terrific student-athletes for their accomplishments over their entire playing careers," said Tim Murphy, head coach of Curry College and coordinator of the East-West All-Star team selections. "To be selected for the East-West All-Star game means that you have been a star not just this year, but throughout your four years in New England collegiate lacrosse."
All players and coaches were nominated by the head coaches within the NEILA. Players were then ranked and selected by a committee awarding the seniors from all-three NCAA Divisions who played their college career in the New England region.
Trainor finished his final season in a Penmen uniform with 38 points on 26 goals and 12 assists in 15 games. He scored 60 times in 40 career games with 32 assists to amass 92 career points. Trainor registered at least one point in 14 games this season and turned in 13 multi-point efforts. He was second on Southern New Hampshire in assists and was third in goals, points and ground balls (35).
Jacobs turned in his finest season at SNHU in 2017, as he scored 19 goals and handed out nine assists for 28 points in 15 games. He had at least one point in each of the Penmen's 15 games in 2017, scored a goal or more in 13 contests, and finished the season with nine multi-point outings. In his career, Jacobs scored 36 goals and assisted on 20 others for 56 total points.
In addition to Trainor and Jacobs being chosen to represent Southern New Hampshire, assistant coach Ben Lanman will handle coaching responsibilities for the West team. A seven-year member of the Penmen coaching staff, Lanman will join Brad Bishop of Keene State University and Liam Murphy of Eastern Connecticut State University in heading up the West squad.
