Men's Lacrosse Closes Out Regular Season with 15-10 Win

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men's lacrosse team defeated American International College by a score of 15-10 Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference play to close out the regular season on Larkin Field. The Penmen improve to 7-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the league.

Eight different players scored for the Penmen, including six points from Cory Allen (Suffield, Conn.) on three goals and three assists. Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.) also added three goals along with an assist, and Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) scored a pair of goals with a pair of assists as well.

The Penmen opened up the first quarter with two quick goals just 1:02 in to take a 2-0 lead. Despite a Yellow Jackets answer, with 13:29 left to play, SNHU scored two more consecutive goals to go up 4-1 when Allen and Buckley each scored. An American International goal at the 6:34 mark sparked a Penmen run, as they went on to close out the quarter with three straight goals to take a 7-2 lead.

The second period was quiet for both teams, as the Yellow Jackets scored first to cut the lead to four, but Southern New Hampshire answered with a pair of goals, including a man-down score from Daly, and a man-up opportunity from Joyce to end the first half with a 9-3 lead.

The third quarter was all Penmen as they came out scoring less than a minute in, and then notched three more tallies to take the biggest lead of the game at 13-3 with 2:15 to go in the third. But, a late Matt Cassidy goal for American International at the end of the quarter gave the visitors a spark into the final frame.

The Yellow Jackets converted on three man-up goals to start the fourth quarter, and to cut the lead to 13-8 with 9:38 left to play. But, freshman Keifer Heckman (Peabody, Mass.) scored the last two SNHU goals to secure the win.

Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif.) had 12 saves in the victory, while Perry Booker had 19 saves in net for the Yellow Jackets.

The first round of the Northeast-10 Championship begins Tuesday, April 29. More details for post-season play for the Penmen will follow.
