BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. – The Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse team was defeated by Dowling College Thursday afternoon by a score of 12-6 in non-conference action. The Penmen fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Golden Lions are now 2-1.
Dowling would jump out to an early lead in the first quarter when Billy Richardson scored an unassisted goal just 59 seconds into play. However, Cameron Joyce (Braintree, Mass.) would answer with an equalizer at the 9:30 mark from Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.), but Tom Cleary would score one more Golden Lions goal in the period to take a 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
Four more Dowling goals in the second period would put the Golden Lions up 6-1 to end the half.
The third quarter would bring more scoring from Dowling, as Southern New Hampshire would also notch two more goals. Three consecutive goals for the Golden Lions would bring the lead to eight, but Ryan Woodford (Scituate, Mass.) and Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) would score back-to-back goals to close out the period and to cut the deficit to six.
In the final quarter, both teams would each score three goals. Joyce would notch two more for the penmen while Murray scored the final goal of the game with 36 seconds remaining.
Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) recorded 12 saves in 54 minutes, while Harvey Myles totaled 14 saves in net for the Golden Lions.
The Penmen return to action March 13 when they return home to host LIU Post for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game.
