Men's Lacrosse Notches First Win of Season, Downs AIC 18-8

MANCHESTER N.H.- The Southern New Hampshire men's lacrosse team won its first game of the season Saturday afternoon against Northeast-10 opponent American International College. The Penmen are now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play, while AIC drops to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the NE-10.

The Penmen opened up the game in the first quarter with four straight unanswered goals. James Sabino (Danvers, Mass.) would score his first goal on the season and the first of the game at the 9:02 mark in the quarter from Casey Sweeney (Bradford, Mass.). Just a minute later, Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass.) would score back-to-back goals pushing the lead to 3-0. SNHU would score four more goals to AIC's one goal, making the score 7-1 at the end of the first.

The Penmen scoring continued through the second quarter when they scored another four straight goals. Jeremy Buckley (Norwell, Mass.), Kevin Goodfellow (Wayland, Mass.), Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn.) and Chris Benoit (Hingham, Mass.) would all contribute to make the score 11-1 halfway through the second quarter. Sabino would score his third goal of the game in the quarter from an Allen assist. SNHU would lead the Yellow Jackets 13-3 headed into halftime.

Starting the second half, the Penmen notched an unassisted goal by Murray to push the lead to 11. A Yellow Jacket goal by Nick Amendt, would cut the lead to 10 until John Cuozzo (Norfolk, Mass) scored from Sabino assist. AIC would close out the third quarter with two straight goals from Bryce Serillo and Brian Kennedy.

PJ D'Amario (Springfield, Mass) started off the fourth quarter with his first career goal, while Allen would score his fourth goal of the game assisted by Murray. AIC would score two more times, but Benoit would finish out the game with an unassisted goal, finalizing the score at 18-8.

In goal for the Penmen for 37:55 minutes, Crosby Nicholson (Andover, Mass.) would make his first collegiate start for the Penmen making two saves with five shots on goal. Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif.) would also see action for 22:05 minutes making six saves. In goal for AIC for 53:52 minutes of the game, Eric Whettell made 12 saves on 29 shots, and Perry Booker finished with two saves.

The Penmen return to action Wednesday, April 4 when they travel to Assumption for a 7:00 p.m. Northeast-10 Conference matchup.
