EASTON, Mass. - The Southern New Hampshire University men's ice hockey team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference matchup to the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-1 at Arena. With the loss, the Penmen fall to 1-16-1 on the season and 0-7 in NE-10 action, while the win boosts the Skyhawks to 6-8-2 and 3-2-1 in NE-10 action.
Stonehill's Christopher Gorovitz notched back-to-back goals at the 8:21 and 8:26 marks of the second first period to give the Skyhawks the 2-0 lead after one period of the play.
Neither team would score in the second half, setting up the Penmen with the come-back opportunity. SNHU's Tyler Pascucci (North Reading, Mass.) would bring the Penmen within one at the 5:09 mark in the third period. Christopher Weilandt (Ashland, Mass.) and Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va.) assisted on the goal.
The Penmen, searching for the game-tying goal, pulled goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) with under a minute to play in order to skate the extra offensive player.
Stonehill's Stephen Balsamo would collect the puck and connect on the empty-net to give the Skyhawks the final 3-1 advantage.
Holske totaled 25 saves in net for the Penmen, while Stonehill goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos recorded 44 saves in net.
The Penmen are idle until next Saturday, February 4, when they host Assumption College at 3:00 p.m. in NE-10 action.
