Michelle McCarty was named head cheerleading coach at SNHU in May, 2011.
“I am confident that Michelle will be able to restore the cheerleading program to a level of great success. She is one of the most decorated coaches in the state of New Hampshire, and her knowledge, talent, and excitement will be a great addition to the program at SNHU," said SNHU Director of Athletics Chip Polak.
McCarty has served as the head cheerleading coach at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, N.H. for the past 11 years. During her time at Pinkerton, she earned 12 State Championship titles and four consecutive New England Championship titles. McCarty’s teams at Pinkerton were also three-time Sportsmanship winners in Division I.
In addition, McCarty has worked as a head coach, a technical/safety advisor and the program manager at Extreem Cheer, the largest competition gym in New Hampshire. With Extreem Cheer, McCarty coached 19 National Title teams. In 2008, her senior-level cheerleaders earned first place honors at the Indianapolis Showdown and then placed third in 2011 in the small gym level-three junior division at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) competition in Dallas, Texas, which is the largest competition in the country.
McCarty is a 1995 graduate of Keene State College with a degree in Acting, Directing, and Technical Theatre. She lives in Weare, N.H. with her husband.
