NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Rising senior Endy Morales (Holyoke, Mass.) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was selected as the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Robin Roberts Best Starting Pitcher when the league announced its end-of-the-year awards on Thursday.
Morales, who was named to the All-NECBL First Team earlier in the week after capturing an NECBL Championship with the Valley Blue Sox last Friday, led the league in ERA in seven regular-season starts this summer, as he went 5-0 with a 1.12 ERA, striking out 32 in 40 innings, while walking just 13 and allowing 30 hits. In his only postseason appearance, Morales, who started the NECBL All-Star Game earlier in the summer, was the winning pitcher in Friday's 5-3 win over the Ocean State Waves, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings, punching out seven and walking a pair, as the Blue Sox became the first back-to-back champions since 2006-07. In addition to leading the NECBL in ERA, Morales ranked amongst the league's top pitchers in wins, WHIP (1.08) and opponent batting average (.199).
The award is named after the late and legendary Robin Roberts, one of the greatest pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball. Roberts won 286 games and recorded a 3.41 in 676 career appearances in the bigs.
