BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Seniors Caleb Potter (Mentor, Ohio) and Mitchell Powers (Portland, Maine) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team were named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Honorable Mentions on Thursday.
Potter, who was selected as a Northeast-10 All-Conference Second Team honoree last week, is hitting .309 (55-178) in 47 games, with 23 extra-base hits, including 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 39 runs scored, while slashing .396/.573/.969. The April 30 NE10 Player of the Week is currently second in the NE10 in home runs, third in slugging percentage, fourth in extra-base hits, seventh in total bases (102), 11th in RBI and 13th in runs. Potter, who is currently in the midst of a 12-game hitting streak, is just one home run shy of matching the single-season program record.
Powers, an NE10 Third Teamer, is 4-2 this season with a 2.79 ERA in 11 starts, punching out 76 over 71 frames. The May 7 NE10 Pitcher of the Week following his perfect game against Saint Michael's College on May 4, in which he struck out 11 batters, Powers is sixth in the NE10 in strikeouts, eighth in strikeouts per game (9.63), 11th in innings pitched and 13th in ERA.
Potter, Powers and the fourth-seeded Penmen open the NCAA Division II East Regional Championship on Thursday (7 p.m.) against fifth-seeded Franklin Pierce University at Pace University's Finnerty Field. Click HERE for more information.
