Baseball's Ticket Punched for Seventh Straight NCAA Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball team earned a selection to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive season as the No. 4 seed for the East Regional, which will be hosted by the University of New Haven on May 17-21 at Pace University's Finnerty Field in Pleasantville, N.Y., the NCAA Selection Committee announced Sunday night when it released its field of 56 teams.

SNHU, which received an at-large bid, will open regional play Thursday, May 17 (7 p.m.) when it meets long-time rival, Franklin Pierce University, the No. 5 seed. The winner will play host New Haven, the top seed, Friday, May 18 (3 p.m.), while the loser plays Saturday, May 19 at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.

Southern New Hampshire (35-15), which will also make its seventh appearance, overall, in the NCAA Tournament, is 2-3 all-time in the tourney versus Franklin Pierce (32-13), with all five meetings taking place in the Granite State. SNHU swept the regular-season series from the Ravens this year for the second straight time and has won six of the last seven meetings. FPU holds a narrow 39-38-1 edge in the 78 all-time meetings. The Penmen are 0-2 this season against New Haven, but won the only NCAA postseason tilt between the two teams back in 2013. The Chargers, who have won four of the last five matchups, lead the all-time series, 36-14.

The winner of the East Regional will punch its ticket to the Division II College World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., from May 26-June 2

The Penmen are 17-13 (.567) lifetime in the NCAA Tournament and captured their only regional title back in 2012 when they finished with a 43-15 record to go along with their trip to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C. Last season, SNHU hosted for the fourth time and advanced to its second straight East Regional final.

Tickets for each day will go on sale 90 minutes prior to the first game and are $8 for adults, and $5 for children (12 & under), seniors (55+) and students. Children under the age of 2 are admitted free.
