DALLAS – Senior Mitchell Powers (Portland, Maine) of the Southern New Hampshire University baseball team was chosen as the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Pitcher of the Week on Thursday for the period ending May 6.
Powers, who was also chosen as the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week on Monday and the NCBWA East Region Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, tossed a perfect game last Tuesday (May 1), striking out 11 of the 27 batters he retired in order, as the Penmen blanked Saint Michael's College, 2-0, in the first game of an eventual doubleheader sweep that clinched them the division. It was the fourth no-hitter of the Scott Loiseau era and the first since Feb. 27, 2016.
Powers and the Northeast Division's top-seeded Penmen return to action Friday, May 11 (11 a.m.) when they take on Le Moyne College, the Southwest's No. 1 seed, in a NE10 Championship Weekend elimination contest at Penmen Field.
