Baseball Places 23 in Wood Bat Summer Leagues

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University baseball program has a total of 23 players playing in nine collegiate wood bat summer leagues this summer across 15 different teams.  In addition, two members of the Penmen coaching staff are coaching this summer, with Eric Pelletier a member of the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox (Cape Cod) staff, while Scott Strong is a member of the Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate) coaching staff.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League leads the way with seven SNHU players competing on three different teams, including four Penmen on the New Bedford Bay Sox.  Five players are competing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, while junior reliever Alex Powers (Brewster, Mass.) is playing for the Chatham Anglers of the Cape Cod Baseball League, widely considered to be the top collegiate summer league in the country.

The SNHU baseball team enjoyed its best season in 2012, posting a school record for wins with a 43-15 record.  The Penmen qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time, capturing the East Region title and advancing to the Division II College World Series, where they won their first game 3-2 over Minnesota State.
