Tim Flight Named NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the Year
MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University junior pitching standout Tim Flight (Portsmouth, R.I.) was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Pitcher of the Year, it was announced by the organization Tuesday. In addition, Flight was named an NCBWA First Team All-American.
Flight is a finalist for the Tino Martinez Award, awarded to the best player in Division II baseball as well as the consensus East Region Pitcher of the Year. In 15 starts this season, the lefthander is 9-1 with a 1.30 earned run average and 140 strikeouts in 102.2 innings of work. Also the Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Year, Flight ranks among the national leaders in strikeouts, ERA and strikeouts per nine innings. He anchors a Penmen staff that ranks among the tops in Division II statistically.
Flight becomes the second SNHU student-athlete in the history of the athletic department to garner a national Player of the Year award. Men's soccer standout Mounir Tajiou was the NSCAA Division II Player of the Year in 2002.
