NCAA Tennis Selection Shows to Air Tuesday Evening

MEN'S TENNIS SHOW     WOMEN'S TENNIS SHOW

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Southern New Hampshire University men’s and women’s tennis teams will learn their postseason fates Tuesday night when the NCAA announces its tournament fields via selection shows that will air on NCAA.com.  The men’s show will air at 8:00 pm EDT, with the women’s show airing a half hour later at 8:30 pm.

The Penmen men’s team, which was ranked sixth in the most recent East Region ranking released on April 11, sits squarely on the bubble after reaching the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Championship.  With seven teams making up the East Regional field, SNHU is hopeful that a 11-4 in-region record and an 11-9 overall mark is good enough to earn it a spot in the field.  For Southern New Hampshire, it would mark its second-straight appearance in the NCAA tourney field after making its debut last year.

The SNHU women, meanwhile, know that their fourth-straight NCAA Championship appearance is secure after it earned the Northeast-10’s automatic bid with a 5-1 win over Stonehill College in the NE-10 championship match Sunday afternoon.  The win gave the Penmen their third-straight Northeast-10 tournament title.  SNHU, which was fifth in the most recent East Region ranking, enters the NCAAs 18-5 overall and 17-1 in the East Region.

NCAA tournament play kicks off this weekend, with first and second round action taking place April 28-May 1 at various campus sites.  Two teams from each of eight regions will advance to the NCAA championship round, which will take place May 16-19 at Top Gun Tennis Academy in Louisville, Kentucky in conjunction with the 2012 NCAA Division II Spring Sports Festival.
