SNHU Claims Highest NE10 Presidents’ Cup Finish with Fourth-Place Showing

RESULTS

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University placed fourth in the 2018-19 Northeast-10 Presidents' Cup standings – its highest finish in program history – when the league awarded the honor at its end-of-the-year banquet at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Monday evening.

SNHU registered 171.5 points to finish behind Merrimack College (186.0), Adelphi University (177.0) and Assumption College (175.0). The Presidents' Cup is presented annually to signify overall athletic excellence in the NE10. It is awarded to the institution that compiles the most cumulative points based on finishes in the regular-season standings from all of its programs competing in league championships. Sponsoring 19 of the conference's 24 points, the Penmen gathered 70.3 percent of their possible 244 points – the highest in the league. Merrimack (69.1), Stonehill College (66.7) and Adelphi (64.1) were the next closest.

The Penmen, who collected a league-best 89.5 points during the fall season, earned the highest number of points from baseball (16), which captured its fourth straight Northeast Division title. Softball and women's soccer each posted 14 points for second-place finishes, while men's cross country checked in with 12 points. Men's golf, which won the Northeast-10 Championship, and men's tennis, which collected its fourth straight regular-season crown, each took home 10 points.

Southern New Hampshire surpassed its previous highest point total of 160.0, which it tallied in 2015-16 when it finished fifth. Since that high-water mark, the Penmen have placed seventh in back-to-back years, before cracking the top four for the first time.

Since SNHU Director of Athletics Anthony Fallacaro took over prior to the start of the 2013-14 season, the Penmen have not checked in lower than ninth and have an average finish of 6.67 over those six years. In the 13 years prior, the department placed ninth or better on just two occasions and averaged an 11.77 finish.
