MANSFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Melanie Rennie (Madison, Conn.), junior Tyler McLaren (Pepperell, Mass.), senior Alexa Poulin (Tewksbury, Mass.) and junior Kathleen Schurman (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), all of Southern New Hampshire University, earned Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference accolades Wednesday.
Rennie, who is one of 18 field hockey honorees, is a psychology major and the owner of a 3.80 grade-point average. Rennie earned All-Rookie honors after a standout sophomore campaign. In her first season in a Penmen uniform, she assumed the starting goalkeeper responsibilities after the third game of the season. In 16 appearances and 15 starts, Rennie posted an 8-7 record with a 1.39 goals-against average, 91 saves and a save percentage of .805 in 1110:15 minutes of action. Her five shutouts ranked second in the NE10 this season, while she placed fifth in GAA and save percentage.
An international business owner sporting a 3.84 GPA, McLaren is one of nine men's cross country athletes to receive the honor - doing so for the second consecutive year. McLaren was an NE10 All-Conference Second Team selection after finishing 12th in a time of 25:46.6 at the NE10 Championship, as well as a USTFCCCA All-Region honoree for his 11th-place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championship in a time of 32:09.
Poulin is one of 17 members of the women's soccer squad for the second straight season. An elementary education major with a 3.99 GPA, Poulin battled through injury to play in 14 games in the midfield. Her one goal came 1:58 into overtime on Sept. 19 as the Penmen toppled the 10th-ranked University of Bridgeport, 2-1.
Schurman, a fashion merchandising and management major with a 3.94 GPA, is one of 11 women's volleyball honorees. Schurman played in all 28 matches as the team's primary libero and was one of two players on the team to appear in all 106 sets. She led the squad with 418 digs (3.94 d/s) and ranked third in service aces (0.15 sa/s).
