Student-Athlete Spotlight: Nick Burke

Sophomore Nicholas Burke (Sandwich, Mass.) has been a key member of the Southern New Hampshire University golf team this fall.  After posting a tie for second in the Penmen’s home meet at the Sunapee Country Club, Burke has been among the top Penmen finishers all season.  In this week’s Student-Athlete Spotlight, Burke gives a bit of insight into his life off the course.

Name: Nicholas Burke

Major: Sport Management

Pregame routine: Usually I just try to take a nap in the van but that never seems to work so I'll hit a couple balls at the range and then take a couple puts right before the tournaments start.

Something people don’t know about me: I participated in the Scrabble National Championship when I was in middle school.

The moment I am most proud of: The moment I am most proud of was in my senior year when my high school golf team won south sectional championships. At the beginning of the year I would have never expected our team to do that well.

Favorite Athlete:  James McGowan- Utility player for SNHU baseball team. He is my favorite athlete because he gives 100% effort no matter what and always does the right thing.

Favorite meal in the SNHU Dining Center: Buffalo Chicken wrap w/ blue cheese, lettuce, and banana peppers.

If I were stranded on a desert island I would bring: A portable TV and my two dogs because I could keep up on what’s happening in the sports world and I wouldn’t be as bored if I had my dogs.

What’s on my iPod: I will literally listen to anything except jazz music.

In five years: In five years I see myself just living a casual life down south playing golf and having an ok job in either golf operations or business.

One item I can’t live without: The one item I can’t live without would be my iPhone because I literally use it all the time and has everything I need on it.

An interesting place I’ve been: An interesting place I have visited is the Dominican Republic and a place I hope to visit one day is Ireland so I can play the old-style golf courses.
